In January 2000 the market price for a troy ounce (ozt) of gold was around $282.00 U.S. It rose at a fairly steady pace over the next several years reaching the $500 mark toward the end of 2005. In early 2011 we have seen gold more than quadruple to over $1400 an ounce.
